The McCarthy Brothers Bond Scholarship

On May 30, 2024 we were able to present our first awards from The McCarthy Brothers Bond Foundation at Greenfield High School!
We are so proud to be able to do this after only launching our website and foundation the month before!
Mike, Colin and Angela attended the awards night and personally gave out the awards.
(Please visit the blog tab to read about that evening.)
We decided we would award two applicants in honor of our two boys- the $750.00 award recipients were:
Addison Rotkiewicz who will be attending UMASS Boston. She plans to major in Health Services with a career goal of Radiology Technician. Addison works at a local pizza shop and has volunteered for several years with her father and sisters with Adaptive Sports at Mt. Snow. Addison wrote about how learning the necessary skills from her Dad and in turn teaching them to her sisters makes her feel grateful to share her love of skiing while providing support to a community of people with varying disabilities.
The program at Mt. Snow is similar to a program at Mt Sunapee called New England Healing Sports Association - Mike, Colin and Shane skied many times together with their program. Beyond this, Addison was described in a letter of reference as: “athletic, smart and a resilient student…a National Honor Society member… and a teacher in the Greenfield Recreation Departments After School Program.” We wish Addison the best as she pursues her goals!
Petru Cojocaru will be attending Clark University in Worcester. He plans to major in Pre-Medicine and Engineering with a career goal of Orthopedic Surgeon. Petru shared in his essay the challenge of immigrating to the United States at 4 ½ years old with his sisters and parents with no English. He shared the importance of his family sticking together and supporting the challenges that they all faced as one unit. Together they were stronger and able to accomplish much more. Petru was ranked in the top 10 of his class and was described in his letter of reference as: “intellectual and inquisitive, goal driven in the classroom and on the court and field …a student ambassador for the National Academy for Future Physicians...he has outstanding leadership ability…he is friendly, caring, helpful and trustworthy.” We believe that Petru will accomplish anything he sets his mind to!
Since it was our first year, we decided to acknowledge all of the applicants. The six remaining students each received $100.00.
Carly Blanchard , Lydia Wood, Joshua Ferrara, Conner Johnson, Oliver Postera and Ava Fortin.
Best of luck to all of them as they start the next chapter of their lives!

In total for our first year, we awarded $2,100.00 - a fitting amount as Shane was 21 when he passed away.
Thank you to all the people that have donated to the foundation thus far helping us to achieve this milestone!
